Recent Updates of Tiguan
The Volkswagen Tiguan was redesigned last year to become even bigger. This has resulted in more cargo space for the Tiguan which is one of its best attributes, the other being its comfortable ride. The Tiguan needs this to go against the tough competition ranging from the Honda CR-V to the Audi Q5. The mid-size SUV is VW’s smallest SUV but comes with a usable third row and versatile and flexible cabin. Power comes from a 2L turbocharged engine making 184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque and coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. AWD is available as an option. There are five trim levels otherwise. The base trim comes standard with a 6.5” touchscreen infotainment system which increases to an 8” unit in the very next trim. This has support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Forward-collision alert with automatic braking and blind-spot monitoring come as standard across the range. Prices start from $24295.

Volkswagen Tiguan Review
Believe it or not, the Volkswagen Tiguan is one of the better SUVs you will see plying on the roads. Right since its inception, it has been known to be a good compact utility vehicle that could challenge most competitors with its power delivery and cargo space.
In fact, the SUV has been so successful in the American market that the company hasn’t shied away from giving it regular updates and facelifts. As for the most recent revelation, a new facelift is said to be due in 2020, along with the Tiguan R concept.
However, there has always been one complaint with the Volkswagen Tiguan, which related to its MSRP. It costs a little more than some of its rivals. Moreover, the top trim is more expensive than some luxury compact SUVs.
Volkswagen Tiguan Interior & Features
The Volkswagen Tiguan excels in the cabin area. It can be had with either the 5-seater or 7-seater layouts where the former is available with AWD only while the latter has optional front-wheel-drive too. The standard fitments are pretty decent, while premium features are added on the higher variants. Heated front seats and steering wheel and leather upholstery are some of the premium additions.
The dashboard holds a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display that can be connected with smartphones via MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The driver’s console gets a 12.3-inch digital display as a part of the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit.
Tiguan Exterior
The moment you look at the Volkswagen Tiguan, you will understand how sophisticated it appears to be. It has some bold character lines running on the sides along with the shoulder panel. The wheel arches are very noticeable, yet subdued.
The front section gets automatic LED headlights and fog lamps that have low-speed corner illuminating setup. The heated side mirrors have the memory feature too. The SUV rides on big 20-inch alloy wheels, which offer excellent stability and attractiveness.
Volkswagen Tiguan Ride & Handling
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a gem to drive on the road. It has its appealing aesthetics working in tandem with the feel of the cabin. The engine is extremely responsive, and every bit of the 184 horsepower would kick the adrenaline in you, especially with its compliant handling prowess.
However, what you won’t like about the SUV is the fact that total power delivery. It is decently powerful when you drive on city roads, but the moment you take it on the open highway, you will feel the lack of power. The accelerator pedal becomes less responsive when you hover close to the three-digit on the speedometer.
Tiguan Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Volkswagen Tiguan does get a very responsive 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder TSI engine under the hood. The unit can pumps 184 hp power at 4,400 rpm, while the peak torque of 299.6 Nm comes in at just 1,600 rpm.
The power is transmitted either to the front or all wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox (a standard fitment). However, when you look at the entire setup, it feels a little underpowered for an AWD vehicle that is meant to hit the highways more often.
Volkswagen Tiguan Braking & Safety
The Volkswagen Tiguan has a pretty good number of safety features on the hook. It has ABS (anti-lock braking system) as standard, along with several other top-model additions, like Electronic Stability Control, Anti-Slip Regulation, and Engine Brake Assist. There is also the Volkswagen special additions in the form of tire-pressure monitoring and an Intelligent Rash Response System.
As for the safety inside the cabin, there are airbags in the front, side thorax, and curtain. These offer complete protection in case of an unforeseen accident.
Tiguan Verdict
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a quality SUV for the automobile market in the USA. It has a very sane and classy appearance. However, though the engine is powerful from the core, it feels somewhat laggy on the highway. Picking up pace post the 100 mph mark seems to be a struggle.
That said, considering that it offers AWD as standard for the 5-seater layout, the attractiveness quotient goes higher, albeit the price might not be very favorable for many.
