Subaru dealer in California charging $50,000 additional for limited WRX STI S209

If you are looking to buy a car that is rare or limited to a fixed number, you often have to deal with something known as a dealer markup. There have been many instances of such dealer markups in the past and the latest to join the list is for Subaru WRX STI S209.

The Subaru WRX STI S209 is now a part of the unwanted list, with Dodge Challenger Demon and Toyota Supra, to have a markup by a dealer in California. However, this dealership is charging a whopping $50,000 extra over the highest MSRP of a rare WRX. This takes the price to $115,000.

The Subaru WRX STI S209 price is $63,995, plus $885 destination fees. But since it is a limited edition model and only 209 units will be produced, Serramonte Subaru, the dealer in San Francisco is charging the additional amount.

This has turned a lot of prospective buyers very annoyed. In fact, a lot of them have taken the help of Yelp, a review forum, to express their annoyance. These reviewers did not mind voicing their opinion that if this continues, they will ensure that the rating for this dealer is kept as low as possible. The Serramonte Subaru dealership already has a lot of single-star ratings on various online platforms.

Having said that, Subaru dealers in other regions are not charging this markup. A dealer in New Jersey is charging additional but not a lot ($89,999 total price). Another seller in Florida is barely charging any extra and the total price as asked is $65,727.

The Subaru WRX STI S209 is powered by a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that can produce a maximum power of 341 hp, along with a peak torque of 447 Nm. These figures are higher than the standard model, thanks to the larger turbocharger attached to the engine. Even the suspension and chassis have been updated over the standard model.

So, if you are interested in buying this rare WRX STI S209, shop around at different dealerships to get the best deal.
